How Do I Become an Amazing Grandma's House Volunteer?
To be a volunteer "House Mom" at Grandma's House and work directly with our residents and babies as an adult presence which must be maintained at all times, you are required to be 21 years of age, you will always need to complete a background check (we will need a copy of your driver’s license to send with the background check form) and possibly fingerprinting will be required if you have lived out of State in the last five years. This is done for us in-kind through the State of Oregon, Department of Human Services.
Our volunteer opportunities include House Moms who are women who fill shifts here and interact directly with the residents and their babies. Besides House Moms, we also need volunteers to transport residents to appointments and grocery shopping, to garden with residents, to teach cooking, to lead workshops, to tutor at the high school level, and other needs where you would be working directly with residents and babies in a non-staff supervised activity.
We have other needs for volunteers who will help with decorating, household repairs, deep cleaning, sometimes painting, outside lawn work and to help with fundraisers. Because you would be under Staff supervision, volunteering for anything other than working alone directly with our babies and residents does not require a background check.
House Mom shifts are mostly available on weekends beginning at 9:00 am in two to four hour increments. For example: 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. Overnight shifts are available on Friday and Saturday nights from 7:00 pm to 9:00 am the next morning. We ask that our volunteers support Grandma's House by giving at least four hours per month.
We would love to have you come visit and tour Grandma's House. If you would like to come visit us, please call 541-383-3515 on weekdays between the hours of 9 to 5 to schedule an appointment.
